Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign aimed at increasing public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Every year, it is held in many countries, including Croatia. The event is initiated in cooperation with the Croatian Institute for Brain Research of the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Medicine and the Croatian Society for Neuroscience, which are associated members and partners of the European Day Alliance for the Brain (EDAB) in co-organization with the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The main goal of this event is to bring neuroscience closer to all groups of people and to encourage young people to explore the fascinating secrets of the brain. Also, our task is to speak about common neuropsychiatric disorders, which are very often stigmatised, but with proper support, people with neuropsychiatric disorders can have an excellent outcome. Therefore, our goal is to raise public awareness of such disorders, bust myths and destigmatise them, educate the public on how to recognise these disorders early and encourage society to help these people.
This year’s Rijeka Brain Awareness Week is focused on diseases and secrets of the brain that are not so obvious or physically detectable but nevertheless exist. During the intriguing seven days, we will discover something about modern technologies and achievements in neurology, secrets of the brain and artificial intelligence, lumboischialgia, personality disorders and psychedelics and the mental health of young people. The project is organised by FOSS students of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka and the professors from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine.
