About the Centre

The Centre for Biomodeling and Innovations in Medicine directs its activities toward implementing new technologies in the field of biomedicine. So far, the Centre has achieved numerous successful collaborations, primarily with teaching hospitals such as the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, Thalassotherapia Opatija, Lovran Orthopedic Clinic and county nursing homes. The Centre has produced models of epitheses, implants, reconstructional models and test probes. In this way, students of the integrated graduate study of medicine and other study programmes have a unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills in 3D biomodeling, additive technologies and artificial intelligence.

Regarding educational materials, a CAD/CAM model of the anatomical geometry of the clavicle was successfully created as a teaching aid. During the design, advanced techniques of computer designing, planning and designing the polymer production processing were used to ensure the credibility of the displayed anatomical geometry. During the pandemic period, the Centre joined initiatives to suppress the spread of the pandemic by creating various protective aids. As part of the PGKC Lab Project in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, a special model was made from degradable polymers taking into account the ecological component. In total, over a thousand pieces of protective aids were delivered.
