The university specialist study of General Internal Medicine provides its participants with comprehensive knowledge and modern scientific discoveries in internal medicine. In the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, which is the teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka, residents are trained for the needs of the CHC Rijeka, as well as other state and private health institutions in the entire Republic of Croatia. This study provides an organised and systematic acquisition of knowledge in the field of internal medicine that the participants will be able to use in their clinical practice. This university specialist study is a mandatory part of the specialisation training programme in internal medicine. It allows participants access to the specialist exam in internal medicine. After passing the final specialist exam, participants are awarded the title of internal medicine specialist, which enables them employment throughout Croatia. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia issues approval for specialisations in internal medicine based on the conditions specified in the Ordinance on Specialist Training for Doctors of Medicine (Official Gazette 111/09) and according to the current National Programme that approves a certain number of specialisations from a certain branch of medicine. Based on Article 139 paragraph 2 and Article 140 paragraph 6 of the Act on Health Care (Official Gazette 150/08), the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia adopted the Ordinance on Specialist Training for Doctors of Medicine (Official Gazette 111/09). Article 15, paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 stipulate that part of teaching for the specialisation programme must take place at the health faculties for no more than 10% of the total duration of the specialisation.
Clinic for Internal Medicine of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka has the approval of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Croatia to conduct specialisation training in internal medicine, which is one of the strategic goals of the Department of Internal Medicine as part of the strategic goals of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka.
