The Histology Laboratory has been operating since the establishment of the Department. Its activities involve tissue analysis, from fixation to preparation of histological slides. It also performs professional activities for the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminalistics, as well as scientific research activities as part of teaching. The Laboratory has archived tissue samples that can be used, when necessary, in court proceedings, for research, medical audits, education of medical personnel, etc.
The Laboratory’s activities occur through several stages, from receiving and handling specimens, preparation of paraffin-embedded blocks and sections to histochemical staining (Hemalaun-Eosin staining) that enables the detection of various cell and tissue structures. The Laboratory is led by Silvia Arbanas, M.Sc.MLD. It has standardised procedures for analysing, embedding, staining and archiving tissue samples.
Service users: the Laboratory performs professional activities for the Department and, as part of autopsies, performs tests for the State Attorney’s Office, CHC Rijeka and the Administrative Health Department of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
