University specialist study programmes are conducted as two-semester (60 ECTS) or three-semester studies (90 ECTS). The student completes the study by passing all exams and, depending on the enrolled study, passing the final exam and defending the final thesis. Upon completion of the study, the student is awarded the academic title of university master of science with an indication of a profession in accordance with the law.
The Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka has 22 university specialist studies and 9 lifelong learning programmes.
The implementation of study programmes in a particular academic year depends on the call for applications published each academic year and the interest of potential candidates. In accordance with the study programme, the enrolment conditions for university specialist studies are:
- completed relevant university undergraduate and graduate study or university integrated undergraduate and graduate study with obtained 300 ECTS credits
- decision on approval of specialisation / evidence of passed specialist exam
- English language proficiency
- grade point average.
Applicants from the Republic of Croatia and applicants from abroad who have completed a university integrated undergraduate and graduate study can enrol in the study under the same conditions.
General information
Enrolment conditions
The university specialist study can be enrolled by candidates who have completed a university undergraduate and graduate study or university integrated undergraduate and graduate study with obtained 300 ECTS credits or a pre-Bologna four-year university undergraduate study. Candidates must be proficient in at least one of the world languages, and English language proficiency is preferred. Candidates who have completed a previous level of study outside the Republic of Croatia must obtain an academic recognition of a foreign high education qualification in the Republic of Croatia (at the University of Rijeka) and must submit with their application a Decision on Academic Recognition of Foreign High Education Qualification.

Academic title
Upon fulfilment of all study obligations and completion of the study, the student is awarded the academic title of university master of science with an indication of a profession in accordance with the law (e.g. University Master of Orthopedics and Traumatology).
