Erasmus is an integral component of the Lifelong Learning Program, facilitating both individual and group mobility as well as participation in European educational projects. Recognized as the most successful student exchange initiative globally, it also welcomes participation from faculty members, both teaching and non-teaching.
Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The University of Rijeka joined Erasmus program in the academic year 2009/2010 and has since signed over 800 bilateral Erasmus agreements with universities from most of the countries in the Erasmus programme. This co-operation includes student and staff exchanges. In fifteen academic years, more than 2600 students and 1100 staff members of the University of Rijeka have participated in Erasmus.
The projected budget for the seven-year duration of the Erasmus+ program is €19 billion. This program consolidates all previous European and international projects and initiatives within the domains of education, training, youth, and sports, effectively replacing seven existing programs: the Lifelong Learning Program (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig), Youth in Action, and five programs for international cooperation (Erasmus Mundus, Tempus, Alfa, Edulink, and the cooperation program with industrialized countries and territories).
The Erasmus+ program is expected to provide opportunities for 5 million individuals to study or train abroad.
Student mobility and the accompanying academic recognition are essential components for fostering an open and dynamic European educational area, which in turn supports European integration and enhances labor market mobility. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka actively promotes and facilitates student mobility through the Erasmus programme.
