The MedRi 2023 conference titled “First International Conference on Teaching and Learning in Medical Education” and the symposium titled “First International Student Satellite Symposium on Future Doctors Educating the World” were held from 30 March to 2 April 2023 in Rijeka and Lovran. The pre-conference events were held on 30 March in the Governor’s Palace, including the thematic Dean s’ Conference titled “Challenges and the Future of Medical Education in the Republic of Croatia”, as well as three panel discussions dedicated to (under)graduate and postgraduate specialist training and the Croatian Qualification Framework. For the remaining three days, the conference was held at the Excelsior Hotel in Lovran through 18 thematic sections and 80 presentations. On the last day, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka presented in front of the Deans’ Conference the conclusions of the MedRi 2023 conference in the form of the so-called Lovran Declaration, a document containing short-term and long-term goals by which medical faculties are committed to improving medical education at all levels in the Republic of Croatia.
The conference was attended by 400 onsite and 1400 online participants, as well as 97 invited lecturers from 11 countries. More than 30 student organisations, associations and sections gathered at the student symposium, and the programme was implemented through 13 thematic sections and 43 presentations. Particularly valuable was the contribution of 54 student volunteers from the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka.
