The university specialist study of Cardiology is a mandatory theoretical education conducted as part of the specialist medical training in cardiology stipulated by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. The Department of Internal Medicine of the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka has the approval of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia to conduct specialist medical training programmes in internal medicine and cardiology, which represents an important developmental achievement of the Department of Internal Medicine as part of the strategic goals of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka. This specialist study of cardiology is a mandatory part of the overall specialist training, which is why it is necessary that the institution fully implements it. It allows participants access to the specialist exam in cardiology. After passing the final specialist exam, participants are awarded the title of cardiology specialist, thanks to which they can work in the entire Croatia. In the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, which is the teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka, residents are trained for the needs of the CHC Rijeka, as well as other state and private health institutions in the Republic of Croatia.
The programme and requirements of specialist training in cardiology are aligned with the programme and requirements determined by the European Society of Cardiology and the European Union of Medical Specialists. It includes the catalogue of theoretical knowledge in the field of cardiology prescribed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC Core Curriculum for the General Cardiologist 2013). It is compatible with similar university specialist studies at many European universities and is available on the following website. This study programme was prepared to enable national and international student mobility, considering the existence of similar study programmes in Croatia, neighbouring countries and EU countries. This applies to all courses. Students from other faculties can attend certain courses from our study and vice versa – our students, according to their own wishes, can enrol in some courses at other higher education institutions.
