This university specialist study aims to provide comprehensive knowledge and modern scientific discoveries in the field of clinical pharmacology and toxicology, especially drug testing and administration. It falls into the interdisciplinary field of biotechnology in biomedicine. In the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, which is the teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka, residents are trained for the needs of the CHC Rijeka, as well as other state and private health institutions in the entire Republic of Croatia. The specialisation programme in clinical pharmacology and toxicology includes attending the specialist study of clinical pharmacology and toxicology. Physicians of various profiles encounter questions in the field of drug testing and administration on a daily basis, and the answers to them cannot be found in other specialist study programmes. This study provides organised and systematised acquisition of the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of clinical pharmacology, toxicology, drug testing and administration, which the participants will be able to apply in their everyday practice. Therefore, it is intended for physicians of all profiles. Clinical pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacotherapy are new but prominent medical branches that penetrate almost all other clinical medical branches as well as other branches in the field of biomedicine and health (basic medical sciences like pharmacology, immunology and genetics, all public health branches, certain veterinary, dental medicine and pharmacy branches). This study is also intended for participants who completed graduate studies in other professions and want to continue with postgraduate education. This includes candidates with master’s degrees in the field of biotechnical sciences (biotechnology) and natural sciences (chemistry and biology).
The university specialist study of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology: Drug Testing and Administration is a mandatory part of the specialist training programme that enables participants to access the specialist exam in clinical pharmacology and toxicology. After passing the final specialist exam, participants are awarded the title of clinical pharmacology and toxicology specialist, which enables them employment in health institutions, academic and research institutions, the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory bodies in the local community and the entire Republic of Croatia. For experts in other fields of biomedicine and health and biotechnical sciences, the acquired title of pharmacotherapy and drug testing specialist enables employment within other University constituents, regulatory bodies related to drugs and the pharmaceutical industry.
