EMSA – Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka

EMSA Rijeka is a branch and full member of EMSA (European Medical Students’ Association) – an association that gathers numerous medical students from the member states of the European Union and other European countries. At a local level, we act as an autonomous committee affiliated with the FOSS MEDRI association, which is organised through six EMSA pillars: Medical Ethics and Human Rights, European Integration and Culture, Health Policy, Public Health, Medical Science and Medical Education. Each pillar has its pillar director, and the branch is managed by a local coordinator and their deputy.

At the European level, EMSA primarily acts as the “voice” of medical students, that is, as a representative body that stands up for and presents the viewpoints of European medical students to crucial stakeholders within European medical professional organisations. It has also been recognised by the European Parliament, the European Commission and the United Nations.

At the local level, we implement both our and EMSA’s traditional projects and encourage European student initiatives among our students. Also, we encourage our students to take advantage of the opportunities for professional development that EMSA offers, to collaborate internationally with students across Europe through EMSA’s European projects and to hold positions within EMSA at the European level.
