Second International Conference on Teaching and Learning in Medical Education

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great honour and pleasure that we announce the organisation of MEDRI 2025 – The Second International Conference on Teaching and Learning in Medical Education, hosted by the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka. Following a series of successful initiatives in the advancement of medical education within higher education, this year’s conference will be held under the theme FUTUREMED: Transformative Era of Higher Education.

The MEDRI 2025 conference holds particular significance as it coincides with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of our Faculty, serving as a distinguished prelude to a week of commemo­rative events held in its honour. Building on the remarkable success of the inaugural conference in 2023, which brought together over 400 in-person and 1,300 virtual participants, our goal is to establish a biennial tradition of fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in medical education.

MEDRI 2025 will take place from 27th to 29th November 2025 at Hotel Ambasador in Opatija, Croatia. As with the first edition, the conference will bring together key stakeholders in medical educa­tion across the Republic of Croatia. This year, the scope will expand to include participants from neighbouring countries and the United States of America, thereby further enriching the regional and international exchange of knowledge and best practices.

The conference is organised in collaboration with prominent institutions, including the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Medical Association, the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor, the Faculty of Medicine in Mostar, the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, and the University of Rijeka. We are also proud to partner with more than 20 institutions of higher education, including all four remaining medical faculties in Croatia.

MEDRI 2025 is open to educators, students, healthcare professionals, academic leaders, and ad­ministrative staff involved in medical and healthcare professions education. The programme will highlight contemporary trends and challenges in medical education, this year with a focus on undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as teacher education in the form of lifelong learning, particularly in light of the ongoing digital transformation that is reshaping the landscape of higher education. The conference will feature short lectures, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and poster presentations, showcasing exemplary practices from institutions across Croatia and other countries. In addition, we are pleased to reveal a preliminary selection of keynote transform­ative sessions, alongside an innovative talk-show format titled Inspirational Sessions, designed to highlight the professional journeys of educators and students who will inspire others through their personal experiences.

Finally, we are especially proud to announce the return of the Second International Student Sym­posium: Future Doctors Educating the World, a satellite event that will convene more than 20 student organisations and associations from Croatia and the surrounding region. We are delighted to welcome students as active participants in MEDRI 2025 conference, as their presence affirms the very purpose of our efforts—medical education holds meaning only when it is shaped with, and for, those who represent its future.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEES

  • Before 1 October 2025 (Early bird) – 120 € in-person / 50 € online
  • From 1 October to 1 November 2025 – 150 € in-person / 70 € online

In-person attendance may include active or passive participation, whereas online attendance includes exclusively passive participation.

Registration fee includes for in-person attendance includes: admission to all sessions on all three days, coffee breaks, lunch and conference materials (including conference bag with the final programme, digital book of abstracts and certificate of attendance).

Registration fee for online attendance includes: online admission to lectures and panel discussions and digital conference materials (including the final program, book of abstracts and certificate of attendance).

In case of cancellation, the paid registration fees are not refundable.

  • PANEL DISCUSSIONS – Exchange of ideas, opinions, and directions in key areas, 45 minutes.
  • WORKSHOPS – Practical application of innovative solutions, 60 minutes.
  • E-POSTERS FOR MODERATED POSTER SESSIONS – Presentation of original results, 7 minutes.

ABSTRACT GUIDELINES

Abstracts should be written in English in Microsoft Word for all types of active participation and sub­mitted through the following form

until 1 October 2025 at 23:59 CET. Upon abstract submission, please choose the most appro­priate type of active participation and conference topic for your presentation. Abstract templates are available at the link above. One author may submit more than one abstract.

Abstracts should be written using Calibri font with the line space of 1, and font size 11. The title should be written in capital letters. On a new line, write the full name and surname of all authors. Underline the name of just one author who will present the work (presenting author). Under the authors’ names, write the affiliations for all authors in the following order: institution, department, city, country. Associate each affiliation with the appropriate author by writing Arabic numerals in su­perscript next to the author’s last name and at the beginning of the affiliation. On a new line, provide the email address of the author who will be the presenter. Do not include authors’ academic titles.

The abstract text should be written as a single paragraph with a maximum of 2,700 characters with spaces not counting the title, authors, affiliations and keywords. Under the abstract text write 4-6 keywords using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and separate them by semicolons. Please do not include figures, tables, abbreviations or references.

All abstracts must include one or two sentences stating the aim of the presentation. Abstracts in the form of reviews or overviews should not be structured into sections (Lectures, Workshops, Panel Discussions). However, for those Lectures and Posters which include the results of original research, the abstract should be structured into the following sections: Aim, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Finally, for those Lectures and Posters which include case reports, the abstract should be structured into: Aim, Case Report, and Conclusions.

During submission, the submitting author will have the opportunity to select whether they would like to nominate their work for one of the Awards for Excellence in Medical Education.

ABSTRACT RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT, PUBLICATION AND AUTHOR OBLIGATIONS

(Please read carefully)

Submitting authors will be notified of abstract results via e-mail on 15 October 2025 and will be provided with further instructions and Conference logo for their presentations, which must be included on all PowerPoint presentations and e-posters.

Accepted abstracts will be published at the beginning of 2026. In addition, the authors of best presentations select­ed by the Presidents of the Organising Committee after the Conference, will have the opportunity to publish their work in the form of a scientific article in December 2026 in a special edition of Medicina Fluminensis, the official journal of the Croatian Medical Association – Rijeka Branch and the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka. Finally, the Frontiers publisher will launch a special Research Topic on the theme of the conference in 2026.

The presenting author of an accepted abstract is required to pay the registration fee by 20 October 2025 and attend the conference in-person, both of which are mandatory conditions for publishing the abstract.

E-POSTER GUIDELINES

E-posters should be created using Microsoft PowerPoint, consisting of a single slide formatted in Landscape orientation with dimensions of 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio). The authors will be provided with the link to upload their poster(s) after the acceptance of their abstract(s). The presenting authors are expected to be present by their posters during the Moderated Poster Sessions.
